After a lot of thinking, tantrums, and hesitation. Finally, I took this chance of the quarantine and my obvious free time to start this blog and aka my internet diary. I took most of my courage to finally initiate this blog, but hopefully it'll be worth it. I mean, writing is really more than a hobby for me, it's more of a soulful way of expressing how i see the world, and how i understand it.
Now that being said, the way we all perceive certain incidents and situations is pretty much a big deal. It all reflects your mindset, and somehow that all adds up to your writing abilities.
After all, we are all writers.
But f i could add a timeline of how it all started then, here goes nothing.
I'd take this as a chance for me to introduce myself, but not in the formal standard way,
I'm Mai, I'm 20 and let me tell you, last December this number has really freaked me out, since it's the beginning of a new decade and new beginnings and fresh starts make my mind run wild of the different possibilities and things i could do or be. But hopefully, it would be a great fresh start. Mhm, who knows?
I'm truly thankful for God's surprise plan for me, He arranged my life events and steps to make it all fall at its right place even though I had serious doubts. So, thanks to His plan I got into my dream college which is Fine Arts. Studying interior design wasn't my first choice but now that I'd finished my second year, maybe this major was the right one for me. In college, there's no constant, you can hate what you thought you'd love and you could certainly fall in love with this subject you detested at first. It's all about experiences and making most of your choices. If you gave yourself the time and chance, you'll discover your true inclinations and you may unfold new talents too.
I'm Egyptian, In addition of knowing Arabic, I may count English as my second language, I know French and currently I used my time in quarantine to learn Italian. I'd say that I'm such a passionate writer, I love writing in detailed outline and put more effort into the painting of my scenes with words and emotions. I read most of the Classics throughout my school years and this was my first and most profound influence on my perspective and way of words and emotions. It shaped how i play with words.
I guess i started thinking about writing when i was about 8 or 9, my mother used to bring me kids stories, short stories and mini novels and also the novels I studied back at school was such a great impact on me. They got me thinking about writing, and mainly i wanted to experience writing a short story. And so I did, I wrote stories but they were almost uncompleted. I mean I was literally a child back then.
However, this was an eye opening way for me, to comprehend the story-telling techniques and how to play along with the plots, characters and the whole structure of the story. That fascinated me, how can a human being tell story and capture your total attention. Reading was and still a mere escapism for me.
When I was about 12, i started writing letters to my friends. And getting myself a diary to arrange my own teenage thoughts and events, that was a boost of my ability to take notes and express what I feel and think. At this exact age, the grammar and the basics of the English language was my inspiration. Till now, I regard the formation of a sentence is a miraculous act. How can just three simple parts of speech could give you a useful way of communication? That stroke my curiosity. On writing the essays of my finals for English class, I pretty much could say that was the start of my writing journey. The experimenting with words and thoughts and converting one's own voice to a more universal voice is a true blessing and a real superpower.
Two years later, when I was 14 that was the starting point of my writing hobby.
I wrote thoughts, more like a blog like pieces, i was inspired by the Wattpad and young adult way of writing. Rainbow Rowell, John Green, Gayle Forman and others were the starting fuel to my English-based writings. As much as people may be aggressive about young adult category but it was a simple and fun to read and to spike your imagination. So I'm thankful for young adult. Wattpad and Fan fictions too had a huge role of increasing my imagination and fantasy-related insights.
At 15, I started writing a mini novel, and that was a huge deal!
when i was 16, i started getting more and more in love and inspired by the Classics way of writing, and the color and taste of their writing and vocab choices.
The start of sharing and being heard by people, and the chance to see others interact with my words was when my English teacher asked me personally to write and form the annually Mother's Day speech. After several nights of searching, drafting and mostly deleting every other sentence, I had come to the final draft and the one that was read at the waited day. The pressure was unbearable but the challenge i endured was so worth it! Reading it in front of the head teachers and head supervisor and most of my friends, and the beautiful pride look of my teacher was worthwhile and wholesome.
A nerve-racking challenge? yeah maybe but that's when your spark ignites.
At 18, i had captured the writing too much and it was my first way of expressing myself more and more, i started writing short stories, letters to myself, and a mini novel.
Now, I'm 20 and I've written 96 pieces of different subjects, thoughts, letters and stories. I wrote assignments and researches for my college work too.
I started this blog days ago, and I'm excited to begin writing more and more. Hopefully, this is a new way of expressing and publishing my writings.
impatiently waiting <3
